On July 22nd 2011 I shaved off ALL of my hair to raise money for childhood cancer research through the St.Baldrick's organization. The purpose of me shaving my head is to stand alongside children who lost their hair during chemo by no choice of their own. This creates awareness while creating the opportunity for people to pledge on my bald head to raise money towards research for childhood cancer. I raised $454 towards childhood cancer research just by shaving my head! As awesome as that sounds I am $46 short of my goal. Anyone who wishes to support this wonderful cause can donate through my secure St. Baldrick's page http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mirsmith
Why did I do it?
A child's job in life is to play and to explore their world. They should not have to fight for their lives. My hair will come back. Children who lose their battle with cancer will not. I did this in hopes that the money I raised will help find better treatments and potentially a cure so one day no child will have to fight for their lives against this disastrous disease. When you visit my St.Baldrick's page be sure to click on my honored children. Reading their stories is what truly inspired me to take action and to commit myself to this cause.
