This is a video message to the Prime Minister, backed by PPL on Copyright Term for Musicians. In it, working musicians (who have played for artists including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Robbie Williams, Hot Chocolate, Shania Twain, Culture Club and more) call on the UK Government to support the European legislation giving them a fair copyright term.

The video message was recorded at Abbey Road Studios on behalf of 40,000 performers who have signed a petition calling for a fair copyright term. It features 28 musicians young and old who have performed on tens of thousands of recordings between them over the past 50 years.

  • These musicians have been TRICKED once again by the record industry. If the recordings are not available, they get no royalties. Less than 5% of recordings over 50 years old are in print from the original label. Once the record goes into the public domain the ARTIST THEMSELVES can put the record out and make ALL THE MONEY. Stan Kenton bought his deleted masters from Capitol and released them on his label and made ALL the money. He was lucky, most labels won't sell. In P.D. they're free to use.

  • at 1:48 etc. thats my dad :D

  • This is outrageous. These people make the music we love the way it is. They deserve their rights.

  • I am a PPL member, the individuals on this video do not represent most other members.

The major record labels control the PPL & will gain the most from this extension.

Our royalties will actually get smaller because dead performers descendants will take an increased % of the PPL income. This is paid by the BBC & others, who will not pay more.

The majors will record less new music, because re-releasing the same old music is more profitable.

I save for my old age, the people on the video did not!

  • ITS OUTRAGEOUS THAT THE UK GOVERNMENT UNDER GORDON BROWN IS NOT BACKING THIS DIRECTIVE!

Just another case of how The Arts are treated in this country.
