A brief video of some of the glitchy graphics in the PC version of RAGE while using the latest ATI/AMD Catalyst drivers: Flickering textures and random garbage on the screen. It gets much worse than this, but this is all I was able to record. Reverting to version 11.8 or upgrading to the 11.10 preview driver 2 will fix the glitching but the texture popping and low frame rates are still there.

My system runs an ATI Radeon HD 6870 (1GB) running on an Intel Core i5-2500k with 16 GB DDR3 RAM. This was recorded with ATI Catalyst 11.9 drivers.

Everything running at stock speeds with plenty of cooling so there's no overheating issue.

  • its a shame that we have to worry about what graphics card we have on our system before buying this game

  • @OVOX0 Well to be fair, I think half the blame is on AMD for releasing a broken driver, days before the Rage release. The original hotfix had the wrong OpenGL driver which made the game perform even worse. But I agree, id obviously didn't invest the necessary resources in testing on the PC version. It is a shame.

  • i5, hd 5670..... 15 fps average lol....these half-assed ports are really gay

  • @llJAFYll That's because you have a weak GFX card. I have a an i5 OC @ 3.8ghz + an ATI 5850 and I'm running it in Eyefinity mode (5040 x 1050). Haven't had any glitches whatsoever and frame rate is above 50fps constant.

  • If you don't want to revert your CCC because of other games, etc. (like me) just put a file called atigolxx, extracted from an old version of CCC, into your rage directory. This is something to do with OpenGL.

  • What do you do when you start seeing more badly done, badly designed or unstable games on any hardware and software. You boycott the companies, orgs etc.

You make a list of who is behind the games and stop buying from them. And you do not back down or go soft and fall for any public statements or promises of patches of theirs. Unless you see results they get nothing.

Ignore all this crap about ATI vs Nvidia or "bad drivers". Its all a throw off.

  • i7@3.4ghz 8gb ram

    6970 catalyst 11.10

and it's even worse I get decent framerate like 50-60 but textures glitch like hell

  • My game is doing the same thing , also running an ati 5850

  • @llJAFYll strange... 45 fps here with HD5670. Phenom 945 @3GHz.

  • The fix driver doesnt work at all, this game is crap.

  • @llJAFYll Well you have a point, the texture pop in is annoying even with the update and 11.10 amd drivers, but this is I think largely due to the way the tech 5 engine balances textures based on available video memory. If you have equal to or more than 1.5 gb vram I think if you search google there is info on creating a custom config that forces 8mb textures on all the time.

  • @circuschris2880 well the hd 5670 is more than enough to handle ID tech 5 engine... I was getting 60 fps with brink so why not with Rage lol. If the console versions are playing this game at 60 fps while my computer rapes all other console games' framerate by twice as much, there is something wrong with the port. I already got alot of the issues fixed by installing the ati hotfix, running this game at 50-60 fps. The only problem now are the texture pop-ins.

  • This so obvisious him doing all this or or just have a really bad computer or you scratched but either way its your fault
