In that case he was probably just a bit rusty. The same material on the DVD is hilarious because the phrasing and flow seems so much better and more rehearsed. I'd say that's why they film for the DVD at the end of a tour. ;)

I've watched Definite Article hundreds of times and it's really interesting to see this material in a fairly raw state, before it's developed into a polished routine.

@SpiritmanProductions Hi - THE DEFINITE ARTICLE was late 1995. I was at one of the shows (and met the man twice and made a total prat of myself in my admiration, which cut no ice). I am fairly sure this was broadcast in 1996, after the series of original shows. Presumably, it was also recorded afterwards but I'm happy to stand corrected.
