I thought you could still do debt settlement with collection agencies. So it has to be with the credit card company? I'm so confused, and need to know.

@lorilynneottley You can do a debt settlement with both, but it's better to do it directly with your credit card company b/c you can get better terms (as low as 75% off with cc company, not usually lower than 50% with collection agency), cc companies will report it directly to credit agencies (whereas you might have to request a letter from a third-party and send it to all three credit bureaus, and it's best do avoid a charge-off by working with cc companies b4 180 days delinquent.
