Wonderful voice! She also sings a song called "When That Man is Dead and Gone" that I heard in a documentary called "Human Remains". Does anybody have that song? It's bluesy and cool, I'd love to hear it again.
Ms. Bailey was from Washington State.....in a small town called Tekoa.....and died in 1951 in another small town in Washington state called Poughkeepsie(not the one in upstate New York)
This was recorded in August 1932, featuring Matty Malneck conducting members of Paul Whiteman's orchestra {whom Mildred was recording with at that time}. Incidentally, Hoagy Carmichael first recorded "Rockin' Chair" for Victor in May 1930, leading an rousing "all-star" session he personally hand-picked [featuring Benny Goodman, Bix Beiderbecke, Bubber Miley, Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti, etc.] and delivering a "talk-vocal" with Irving Brodsky..
Many thanks for this delightful song, no one sang it like Mildred Baily. You are awesome for sharing!
