The Frances Perkins Academy (FPA) is a public high school located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. FPA is a Big Picture school - a student centered model of education that emphasizes real world learning. Students attend internships in fields of their interest twice a week. Internships not only give students an opportunity to learn job skills under talented mentors, they also provide an avenue for academically rich projects. When not at their internships, students are in advisory three days a week developing rigorous projects around their internship experience. The result is a truly individualized, authentic learning experience based on the students' interests...all forged in the real world. And because FPA is a public, Department of Education school, students sit for standardized Regents exams and are held to the same standards as any other student in the city.
