The bells at the parish church of Waltham on the Wolds near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire had been silent since an earthquake cracked the spire on the night of February 26th, 2008. We've created a website to follow the repair work at http://www.saveourspire.org.uk. The spire is now almost completely rebuilt. It was the bell-ringers that first discovered the damage. And some ten months later, on New Years Eve, they were finally given permission to ring the bells for the first time to celebrate the coming of the New Year. My thanks to John Matthews and his team of bell-ringers for allowing me to film them all on this auspicious ocassion.

  • I'm not sure, but I think it was to make a difference between before and after midnight - the change from one year to the next.

  • the treble was going up wrong. Good job it was corrected =]

  • Why were the bells half muffled?
