ALLEGIANCE (4:35)
(Rock/Soundtrack) A song about a Gay American Soldier's letters to his significant other at home while sent out to war. The song was inspired by the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy currently in place in America as well as the current level of homophobia affecting gay soldiers in the U.S. Armed Forces.
More Equal Union is an LGBT Civil Rights music album that will be available on iTunes in June 2009, and all proceeds will benefit Lambda Legal. For more information about the album, including audio previews and music videos, go to the official website at http://www.MoreEqualUnion.com.
THE STORY OF ETHAN AND JACOB (Part 7 of 13):
The economy had crashed a few months before, and it was exceptionally hard to find a job, so Ethan and Jacob made a hard decision for Jacob to go into the Armed Forces as they were heavily recruiting. Jacob would send letters back to Ethan as he went through boot camp and was shipped straight to war halfway across the world. His last letter to Ethan was one of horror, as Jacobs platoon somehow found out about Jacobs sexuality though Jacob kept it to himself, and he feared that he would be abandoned in combat. Two weeks later, Jacob's mother was notified by the U.S. Army that her son has been killed in battle.
LYRICS:
To the one I love, my
Bootcamp started
There is almost no break
To write back our
telephones are down I
miss you very much
Things are very extreme
Our locker in-
Spections are this after-
Noon and reading
Your handwriting gives me
Confidence and hope
Going through the gas cham-
Ber what terror
I have no more stamps left
Could I get some
More and now my pen is
Running out of ink
To the one I love, it's
Raining outside
War is all around us
In the first platoon
And we are headed
At the enemy
Bullets soaring through my
Legs the dirt was
Rising off the ground I
Sprinted fast as
I could go I made it
Past the open field
The entire third Pla-
Toon behind me
Was annihilated
By a lethal
Missle strike don't worry
I am still O.K.
To the one I love, they
Found out about
Who I really am I'm
Feeling scared I
Kept it to myself I
Don't know how they learned
To the one I love, I'm
Now an outcast
In my own platoon
I start to wonder
If I'll be alone in
Every battle now
To the one I love, I'm
Really sorry
You do not deserve the
Pain I'm feeling.
I want you to know I
love you very much.
