Mr. Duffy is a senior studying Physics at The University of Tennessee. While in school he spearheaded Calculators to Classrooms, an effort that is collecting and sending calculators to schools in need. http://calculatorstoclassrooms.org

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  • @rearte that's true, but there's also wolframalpha and googlegraphing for anyone who can access the internet, which is a much wider audience. I do most of my math from my laptop.

  • @vipez666 While that's a good idea, it is likely that many of the students at these schools don't have smart phones for the same financial reasons that they don't have calculators.

  • @vipez666 that's actually a really good point, and those already exist and are great to help students with homework. Unfortunately, anything with internet is banned in the classroom, so we are trying to build class sets that will help students with classwork, exams, and standardized tests.

  • hmmmm....y not make a super calculator app for iphone ? everyone has one of those.

  • Yeah George!!!
