This was a "play" originally performed in "Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind" with the Neo-Futurists in Chicago. The video is a from gig at Fremd High School on 2/22/08, for Writer's Week.
I perform at high schools across the Midwest with a mix of my poetry, performance art, and some tidbits of knowledge about being a professional freelance writer. I encourage you to hire me to come to your high school for "Writer's Day!" I also do classroom workshops on slam poetry and performance art. (In this video, you see kids cheering for poetry -- what more could you want, folks?)
If you're interested, drop me a line. I am booking gigs all year!

I saw this on New Years 2008 & I thought Mary was going to Kiss me.
She ended up kissing my friend sitting next to me, but this play really moved me.

I want her to come to my school so badly but I don't think she would come. It wouldn't be a national booking.... You're awesome Mary, though!

That poem/play was unlike anything I've seen before. You don't just kiss that kid for humor- you actually tell him he's worth something. It's something people don't hear enough of. So in case you haven't heard this lately, Mary Fons: you have an extraordinary and unique talent, and you use it to lift people up rather than spew negativity. Way to go, girl.
