I'm a skydiving student going through the static line program at Archway Skydiving in Vandalia, IL. This is a video of four of my early jumps. The first two jumps are on a static line. The third jump is my very first freefall. I didn't maintain the arch. Oops! I flipped and the parachute came up between my legs. The fourth jump in the video is my tenth jump and a 20 second delay. By this time I've gained a lot more confidence and stability in freefall. I even managed a nice stand up landing. Thanks to all the folks at Archway, and especially to Louie for the video footage.

  • Oh cool man! You made it! Thanks for the progression vid....I'm pretty excited about my first static line this weekend!

  • I currently have 152 jumps and a brand new Coach Rating! Woohoo! Just keep jumping.

  • OMG! At 2:42 he grabs his head and the canopy starts to open between his legs! I'll try to remember not to do that this Sat.!

  • Once the canopy opened, I realized that I had flipped between my risers and they were both twisted. The canopy was flyable so I didn't cut away. Always remember: HAVE FAITH IN THE ARCH!!!

  • hi guys doing my static line course in may. just want to know what a coach rating is? is it only in america im in england?? hola

  • you only had to do two static lines? when can you usually progress on to freefall?

  • Does anyone know how this compares to a tandem which I have done. Thanks

  • @styxer4589 - You're absolutely right. PULL is the most important. If your AAD skips out on you and you've focused on being stable, you will be in trouble. With that said, I'm deleting my previous comment so others are not misinformed.

  • @coryjb

Im sure you have made many more jumps since you posted but if you look in your SIM the priority is Pull, pull at selected altitude and then pull stable

  • felt pretty awesome huh?

  • I went there two weeks ago and was nervous as hell sitting there in that class, but having Louie as my instructor was comforting because he was totally hilarious. I will probably be doing it again this Sunday and every Sunday till I get my A license

  • I was there about two weeks ago and completed my first static line jump, I was extremely nervous while I was sitting in that class, but Louie was hilarious the whole time. Im probably going to go there again next Sunday... can't wait : )

  • @coryjb Have faith in the arch! It gets easier the more you do it! Believe it or not, falling through the air in a stable position becomes very natural with practice. I'm currently up to 515 jumps and I am getting my tandem rating this weekend. Just hang in there and keep jumping!
