Nick Gisburne really WAS banned because of copyright infringement and for no other reason. Youtube has given itself a black eye by the way it has bumbled this situation. I discuss the ramifications of its missteps and suggest a solution to the mess it has created.

Here is a video that makes it look like Islam is a peaceful religion. I am not a scholar of the Koran, so I am in no position to state whether these comments, or the comments in Nick's video, more accurately reflect the Koran.

Whatever the case, it is important that people be familiar with the quotes cited in Nick's videos since they are a source of inspiration to Muslim extremists.

Xild's video which proves that Youtube originally stated that Nick was banned for inappropriate content—not for copyright violation.

Here is a letter Nick received from Youtube saying he was banned for inappropriate content.

Here is a video by Firefly515 where he gloats about getting Nick banned. DarrylRevok also comment that he to flagged Nick. Firefly later made apologized for flagging Nick.

Pdoeman posted a video for Nick explaining that Youtube changed its tune. It is well worth watching.

OOPS!, My bad.—So sayeth Youtube : The second letter that Nick received from Youtube states Nick was banned for copyright infringement. See the letter at the bottom of this page.

Schott's letter to Youtube stated that many videos were in violation of 512 (c) 3 and 512 (d) 3 of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. You can read the relevant portions here:

Wendy Seltzer is a lawyer and who has worked with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. She is the founder of the Chilling Effects Clearinghouse. She states that the DMCA does not require a permanent ban.

Youtube's blunder has helped fuel suspicion amongst conservatives that it is aiding and abetting America's enemies by unfairly deleting anti-Jihady videos. Whether or not Youtube is making a conscious effort to help America's enemies is a subject I will let others debate. What is important here is to note the comments on these two videos. Youtube's ham-handed handling of this incident has given it a black eye:

Please watch this video by IslamAndFriends. It shows that the way Youtube implements its policies and its lack of transparency has also caused some within the Muslim community to believe that Youtube is being unfair to them.

I must commend IslamAndFriends for being a standup kind of guy and joining the protest against the removal of Nick's video, despite the fact that he probably thought its contents were distasteful. Also, note the bitterness in the comment by zaman27 where he notes that PrinceAfghan was suspended after he had posted over 300 videos. I am unfamiliar with PrinceAfghan and whether he did anything to justify a suspension, but a policy of transparency could reduce hostilities that have developed.
--------------------------------------

Youtube has even taken down at least one video claiming it was infringing on copyright, when it appears that no copyrighted material was used. See how they removed a video by Anangel13, another atheist on Youtube. What is going on here?

--------------------------------------
If Youtube wants to dispel the notion that they are out to censor atheists then they are have a funny way of going about it.

Finally, read Google's unofficial motto—"Don't be evil".

Take a close look at their mission statement on serving their users:

Is Youtube living up to Google's goals, especially in relationship to honesty and responsiveness?
