Sweet freedom as quarantine ends for 283 at hotel
Seven days of an enforced quarantine for 283 guests and staff at Metropark Hotel have ended in cheers and general goodwill.
The guests gathered at the exit of the Wan Chai hotel and joined in a countdown to the end of their quarantine at 8.30 tonight.
Upon taking their first steps out of the hotel in a week, many hugged and shook hands with hotel employees, health officials and police officers whom they had become acquainted with in the past week.
Many expressed satisfaction with arrangements at the hotel and said they will return to Hong Kong.
The departing guests were divided into three groups and taken away in eight coaches.
Of these, one headed straight for the airport while another headed for the two hotels in Mong Kok and North Point where the government is giving guests two nights of complimentary accomodation.
