JNP MP offered cash to support Opposition candidate - Jan 15, 2010

National list Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) Legislator Mohammed Musammil has revealed of efforts made by Sarath Sonseka to buy him to support his candidature.

Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa addressing summoned a news briefing to reveal to the nation attempts of the Opposition candidate to buy his supporters. He revealed that Mr. Musammil, media spokesman of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna had been offered 30 million rupees to support Sarath Fonseka. In addition he was offered several world tours with full security. Mr. Weerawansa pointed out that this indicated the deceptive corrupt politics of the Opposition candidate.

Mr. Musammil appearing at the news conference said Mayom Mustapha had discussed with him in supporting Sarath Fonseka. He said he also had discussions with Ranil Wickremasinghe, Ravi Karunanayake and Malik Samarawickrema. He visited Maliks office at Rajagiriya last night. He possessed the audio recording of his discussions. Originally the news briefing to announce his crossover was planned at Rajagiriya this morning. But, later it was decided to hold the news briefing at the Reid Avenue office of Sarath Fonseka this afternoon.

He said his main intention was to participate in this news briefing and reveal to the entire country how Sarath Fonseka was attempting to buy other supporters. Earlier Muzzamil was seen storming out of the Sarath Fonsekas office claiming that he will expose a conspiracy. This was a mission launched by the JNP to expose the money handed out by the Fonseka camp to get MPs to crossover. He said he was offered a cash package. He could not even count it. Mr. Mussamil displayed to the media the cash offered to him.

Mr. Musammil said Sarath Fonsekas intention was to dupe the public. He emphasized that the main intention of this mission was to reveal to the country, the corrupt policies of Sarath Fonseka.
