This is a definitive film biography of one of the most controversial figures of the Civil Rights Movement. Hew was one of the first "Freedom Riders," an advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King and A. Philip Randolph, organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, intelligent, gregarious and charismatic, Rustin was denied his place in the limelight for one reason - he was gay.

  • @pyropianist whats even worse, is that he still would be a second class citizen. It's just not right! we will overcome!

  • @mrssolo78 It was feared that the Civil Rights Movement would be disqualified on the grounds of being organized by a gay man, so Rustin, for the sake of the movement, agreed to have his name withdrawn from press releases. Sad but true.

  • He seemed like a great man

  • He was an absolute hero - it is truly saddening that he is so unknown

  • I'd like to ask that demigogue Glenn Beck how conservative MLK was (Beck says the Civil Rights Movement was led by conservatives) since one of his most trusted advisors was a gay, socialist sympathing, former CPUSA member.

  • He was brilliant in ALOT of ways? that is a very good question....Why DID he stay in the background?

  • What an awesome man!
