The guy in the black got really screwed because he was the "follower" in the dance, and in ballroom it wouldn't work for him to be paired with a woman because he might not be able to lead her. Ballroom is a very heterosexual-dominated genre, unfortunately, since it's based on those traditional male/female roles. I don't know, that's just what it seems like at least. I'm no expert.
