Im hopping this was a cold start. My car sounded just like this. It was a spun rod bearing that didnt fully pop yet. Wish you luck man. my car didnt smoke, nor loss power. But damage was done. Drain your oil. Take a flashlight to it. If you see sparkles your screwed. Thats metal shavings from somewhere deep inside.

try a compression test, if its off then you might have to crack her open

hey u should get forged rods and some arp bolts it goes good though wih the setup u can go like 500whp but heads will bottleneck but alteast it can take all that

Just finished my hybrid build, was this a cold start? if so, thats very low oil pressure...piston slap is normal for a car with forged pistons, but i will tell you right now that is not piston slap. that is something with the heads, piston slap is a much different noise, and is no where near as constant nor is the duration between "slaps" as quick as what you are are experiencing.

@saltyhippo that's not rich. 15's at idle or cruising is normal all depending on the tune. My WRX sits around in the 15's AFR at idle and cruising. So nothing wrong with his AFR's.

No idea why you would need new motor mounts, or even be suggested that. WTF
Anyway, what em are you using.......Utec? Pull the code, which is probably misfire and solve that. Really i am like.......why did you not pull sound/video from OUTSIDE the car UNDER THE HOOD. On cold start.....piston slap, when at operational temp is SHOULD go away. If not it ant piston slap. Check your timing belt tensioner aswell, run good oil(not that royal purple shit), step to 5-40 or 10-30.

not sure of your car exactly but some subys the odd idle with the cel flashing is caused by having the base idle set too high and if the ecu senses that the engine is idling too fast it cuts fuel to one of the cylinders to slow it down its as dumb duck shit i know but i've seen it b4 on early subys and the ticking is in the valve train probably a follower/lifter thats common too

runnin a lil rich aye?

may need sum new motor mounts
but the cel flashing i believe is mis fire
Forgot to post a response. Ended up figuring it out. The timing belt was way off. Car sounds and runs amazing now. Yay.
