Here's a fiddle medley of "The Rose Tree" and "Turkey in the Straw". Some folklorists say that "Turkey in the Straw" is related to "The Rose Tree", so I made a medley of the two fiddle tunes. My rendition of the "Turkey in the Straw" is somewhat inspired by the 1926 Skillet Lickers version with Gid Tanner, Clayton McMichen, and Bert Layne on fiddles.

I personally think that "The Rose Tree" only sounds like "Turkey in the Straw" a little bit. A lot of those supposed fiddle tune "relationships" seem that way to me.

  • I play violin too, and I'm trying to learn what you are doing!

  • @NewYorkDoberman Those tunes are actually really easy, though I threw a bunch of grace notes into The Rose Tree that are kind of tough. The actual melody is pretty simple.
