Earthquake Danger. The New addition to the University Library raises some questions about structure, design and safety.
UPDATE: Tuesday July 29, the Inland Empire suffered a minor earthquake a 5.4 centered in Chino Hills. The University Library suffered some damage, more damage that it should have considering it was such a minor earthquake. The extent of the damage is still to be determined and may take months to find out the extent of the damage. It is clear that the building suffered some structural damage, and if this had been a big quake and school had been in session, many people would have been hurt. As I predicted in this video 8 months ago, and have been trying to warn the University Administration about for over 4 years, there are structural and design problems with this new 70 million dollar building, serious design problems. Isn't it time the University stoped covering up for this building and let people know what it cost, how it was constructed and be straight about any safety concerns?
Very good analysis of the new addition. Cal Poly Pomona needs to start looking like a university with an architecture program. With the unique history and setting of the campus, it is a shame that we are seeing such bland and boring buildings that will be around for the next 50 years. Yes... I am referring to the engineering building in particular.
