To Lee's Summit Citizens . . . This Could Be You!

When I was arrested twelve years ago and charged with horrendous crimes that were never committed, I believed that in Lee's Summit I would be presumed innocent. I reasonably, but naively, believed I would receive a fair trial.
That didn't happen. Instead, from the moment I was accused, I was automatically presumed to be guilty, even by the people who were supposed to protect my rights:
The police department- responsible for the "investigation" of the case and of the crimes its own officer committed against me. Lee's Summit's government- the elected officials who had the power to run the Lee's Summit government and who signed a contract which they are now reneging on.
They all completely failed to do the jobs you, the Lee's Summit taxpayers, pay them to do. And every day that they continue to stall they are costing you the taxpayers thousands of dollars.
In 1998, Detective Richard McKinley, arrested me and publicly humiliated me. Although the accusations against me were never true, due to a conspiracy within the police department and your elected officials, I ended up spending over six years in prison. Most of that was spent at "The Walls", an ancient prison commonly referred to as the "the bloodiest 40 acres in America."
That began twelve years of agony and hell on earth for me and my family, which hasn't ended. Over this time I endured multiple criminal and civil legal battles, the loss of my business, loss of my children, loss of my good name, loss of my rights as a citizen, loss of six years of my life in prison, and the bankrupting of my family as they struggled to pay the legal battles to defend me.
I am free today, due to the tireless efforts of my family and friends. Friends like Harvey Welch, my high school football coach, and John Ivey, who worked tirelessly to put up 600 "Free Ted White" signs. I am free because of attorneys like Sean O'Brien and Dean Ellen Suni, of the Midwest Innocence Project, who did the legal work, and discovered the conspiracy that Detective McKinley, the police department and your elected officials tried so hard to hide. And I am free due to valiant jurors such a Dan Miller, who saw through the corruption and did the right thing, even though doing so cost him his job.
After twelve years and numerous trials and appeals, on May 17, 2010, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the District Court that awarded me a judgment in an attempt to make me whole. But the politicians controlling Lee's Summit believe they are above the law, and are ignoring the requirement to pay the judgment.
You see in 2006, the City and its police chief were also parties to this lawsuit. The City settled those claims by agreeing to pay any judgment against McKinley if I agreed to drop Lee's Summit and the police chief from the lawsuit. Based on this agreement, I dropped them, and then I went on to win the case. That should be the end; the City should pay what is owed, right? Wrong.
Now the current Lee's Summit Mayor, Randy Rhoads, has announced that he will NOT honor the agreement the City signed to pay the judgment, and instead the City's legal obligation to pay for what the jury said its police officer did to me!
This should disturb you, as it does me. Your elected officials, sworn to uphold the law, feel that they are free to violate your Constitutional Rights, cover up the evidence, and ignore your contracts.

I was almost on the panel that ultimately acquitted you. I believed in your innocence from the get go...especially considering where your step-daughter could have received the information...yeah, I was that juror. I'm quite sure I was one of the exemplary cuts LOL! Sic 'em, Ted!

Ted I wish you all the luck in Finally making Lees summit responsible for their actions!! They settled with me but like your case nobody was ever punished or even admitted wrong doing !! Im saying a prayer you make that happen!!
