I did not see that film but let me tell you, this film starred Doug McClure, made by Amicus, and had a pretty good monster by Roger Dickens, which looked like a cousin to the octopus from the live-action adaptation of POPEYE (1980). It fell in the hands of obscurity, so why can't this film be released on DVD? Anyway, enjoy the trailer, which I uploaded on Retrojunk a while back.

  • Monster movies have pretty much been killed by cgi. You're not going to see stuff like Warlords or effects like the Thing or Dragonslayer anymore.

  • I know! Since when is there a Hollywood contract saying that you are only allowed to use CGI and nothing else like stop-motion or animatronics.

But thanks to the film, A LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN: APOCOLYPSE (2005), they are using old-school effects for the monsters.

  • So do I starfyre05. I miss stop-motion animation.

Since when is there a Hollywood contract where it says that for your creature effects, you are allowed to use CGI and nothing else like men in costumes or stop-motion or puppets.

    You get me?

  • Great movie watch this at the REX in Ely when I was a kid. Loved it would like to get a copy will look on Amazon later.

  • had this on tape back in the days was superb movie!

  • @Fudgeya not so.

  • hi, i'm doug mclure, you might remember me in such movies as....... that's where simpsons got troy mclure from.

  • I first saw this film at the cinema when it first came out.I was at junior school and it scared me shitless.

  • I love these freakin movies everythings physical and not a blot of CGI. CGI is like watching a cartoon, whereas 'The Thing' scared me shitless, 'Alien' scared me shitless, 'Cloverfield' scarred me...amazing how the creature kept finding the couple with the camera.

  • yes good point.dragoslayer was great.i was glad to see in zathura the director made an effort to do most effects manually

  • @RamBam3000 It borrows part of it's title from one of Burrough's John Carter of Mars books, Warlord of Mars, two movies based on these have been made in the past few years. Doug McClure was to have played Carter in a movie, but they made this instead, probably because they didn't have the budget of Star Wars, which was being made at the time, and didn't want to be accused of copying it, even though Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers and Star Wars were all inspired by Burrough's books.

  • This could have been written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. His film has his spirit all the way through.
