For beginner mechanics they are very helpful manuals in general knowledge about everything of that specific vehicle. To learn more about it then what those manuals offer, look online and join some forums and search and post your problem and people will be helpful. I just bought my 1st 84 crew cab long bed 2wd dually with a 454 mine runs great & I have a ton of mechanical knowledge & fabricating but even us pros need to learn sometimes & we all have questions. Forums Will help alot too! Good luck

fuel filter, spark plug gaps or fouling? check distributor rotor, wires boots & connectors getting full spark thru, check coil output, adjust idle screw on tb, running seafoam thru wont hurt. If that doesnt solve it then dig deeper and check timing, check and adjust valve lashings, all the goodies. No offense at all to you, just throwin my advice out. Those Chiltons &/Or Haynes manuals I prefer, if you sit down & REALLY read them cover/cover you WILL learn alot & they have detailed diagrams!!

Check your ESC. Electronic Spark control. also check all the wiring around it. Let me know if that helped.
