From "Johnny Cakes" (episode 8, series 6 of The Sopranos): two mobsters collecting their protection money from the shops. Until they run into Starcostabucks, where "every f'ing coffee bean is in the computer".

This is my most favourite scene from the entire canon, because it shows how everything is changing - and if it stops organised crime, that's good, right?

  • Man is there any where I can watch whole episodes on the sopranos??

  • I think that Blockbuster etc rent out whole episodes. Pretty cheaply. On DVD.

  • @gnr4evr06 - good point. The garbage thing is a running theme in the Sopranos, especially in series 6. I think this is just showing that they aimed to shake down the front of house as well as the back.

  • Haha, yeah.. A brick through a window every week wouldn't really cause any real headache to the Starbucks CEO considering his company has 10,000+ stores in North America...

The storeowner didn't seem like he's a defiant guy but he just said how it is, he really couldn't pay the money even if they threatened to break his kneecaps..

  • Pasty and the other guy were pretty dumb for thinking they can run a protection racket on a national chain store (based on Starbucks I presume).

  • @zcrosby How else do you think it'd work ? Maybe they'll make a phone call, but if you say no, sooner or later they'll come to collect on the premises.

  • whats happens to the black manager i dont remember

  • Mafia 00:01 Starbucks

  • This is one of my favorite scenes from The Sopranos. I always was amazed and enthused at how they could integrate and show the changing social culture and attitudes of American culture as a whole (i.e. the feds becoming somewhat "benevolent" towards the family when their mission changes to homeland counter-terrorist intelligence). It's scenes like this that make you appreciate just how great the show was as a whole.

  • what was that song called in the beginning of the video?

  • @orduni90 i presume they meant killed

  • @poops1 patsy didnt get killed or turn informant

  • the parisis were fuckin filthy pieces of shit, glad to see one whacked n the other turn rat, just like their filthy genes said they would...

  • i've always wondered: are there actually mobsters who go to businesses and demand money for protection? is that really how it works?

  • They don't do bad because the world has been designed so that they don't have the opportunity, not because the world is designed to make them not desire or need to do it.

Its like locking up a rapist and his/her victim -- no on gets raped, but no one has freedom, and no one has learned why it is wrong to treat someone that way.
