Purple Sea Urchin ( Strongylocentrotus purpuratus ) walking around in the tide pool. There are plenty of these guys around the place. Very cool to watch them move around with their tube feet. A very slow moving creature, these guys are a delicacy in some cuisines, but they make me want to gag since I found out that the makeup of their body contains a VERY high percentage of gametes. These guys feed primarily on sea kelp.

If their populations are not kept in check by predators such as Sea Otters, these guys can actually do some harm to kelp forest by overwhelming them in numbers.

Footage taken with Canon SX150
