A fire siren going off on the morning of Thursday, June 5th 2008 in Portage Wisconsin. The power is out from the storm at the time, thus the reason the old fashioned fire siren is used.

The lights you can see in the video are from a school across the street, presumably they have backup power.

  • This isn't exactly an old siren. ;)

This is a Federal Signal 2001 series siren doing fast wail. It has battery backup in case main power fails.

  • Oh, I just ment in the way it was used for a Fire. They don't normally do that these days in my town. First time I had heard it is years it seems. I think they do other ways of signaling the volunteer firefighters now. Though I could be totally wrong.

  • they dont sound the sirens at all for fires anymore, they only sound it if they have to call another city to help my dad with a fire, my dad is a leutenant(dont know how to spell that) fire fighter at Portage

  • I still remeber when they used to have the old yellow thunderbolt and the siren would go off at noon. now they only do it on wendesdays. anyways 5/5 because that is my town to :)
