I partially agree. Unions are part of the problem when they refuse to extend the school year, when they promote things like the balanced school day (we have this in Canada), and so on because they put their own interests above the good of the students. But they are far from being the entire problem and getting rid of them does far more harm than good in the long-term. We need unions and workers' rights.

This isn't the inevitable outcome of public education. I am Canadian and I attended an excellent public high school. I never experienced any of the deplorable behaviour you described or depicted in this video. Now, not all of our schools are as good as the one I attended, but my point stands - it doesn't have to be this way. And I could suggest a number of improvements without privatization - more school days for example would solve the retention problems between grades.

If schools were privately run in America, more than half would teach the lie of creationism as scientific fact

I graduated from highschool three years ago and what I can tell you from my experience is that I had REALLY bad teachers. If schools were privately run, then bad teachers would get fired. All we have right now are teachers that don't give a fuck. One science teacher I had did not even teach. The lazy bastard just sat behind his computer all period and told us to do bookwork. The only thing kids did in that class was talk and listen to their MP3s. What a fucking joke government run education is.

If 90% of Americans are stupid, and most Americans voted for Obama, then wouldn't that make Democrats the dumb ones? Even if you want to say all Republicans are dumb, there will still be more dumb democrats.

It's easy to poop on teacher's unions (and unions in general). But one thing seems sure: 30ish years ago, when America's teacher's unions were strong and the public education system was properly funded, children were being properly educated, as American social mobility arched *upward*.
