This version of the traditional folk song 'God's Gonna Cut You Down', sung here by Bill and The Landfordaires(1943) & later sampled by Moby for 'Run On', on 'Play' cd. 'He put one hand upon my head, Great God Almighty let me tell you what he said.... Go tell that long tongue liar, Go tell that midnight rider, Tell the gambling, the rambling backslider, Tell 'em God Almighty's gonna cut 'em down'.

  • @antiestablishment111 They only recorded about six tunes and there are no photos - that's probably why they're obscure. I have heard four tracks on a compilation of gospel, including this one. Takes some searching.

  • Moby's best song, and this is the best general version of this song save Moby's version/remix. It stirs your soul!

  • Why is this group unknown? I'd love to know more/hear more from them.

  • i like the moby version cos it samples this one and adds to it. but the cash and elvis version seem to lose meaning to me.

  • I get such a high from hearing this song that I am sad when its over. Im sure a doctor will say it has to do with my brain chemicals. This song is designed to be just vocals (and the quiet guitar). Moby's version has so much noise that you can't hear the subtle variations in the harmonics. Not to mention an member's voice is left out entirely! Wikipedia says that Moby sampled the song. He used the whole song, he ripped it.

  • I prefer the moby version

  • @MilosDorian Tom Jones did it justice, but this is BY FAR the best, you're right!

  • Hahhaa the video doesnt fit at all

  • Wow this is a super nice visualization included in this video... for real I'v been trying to hear this version of the song "for a long time." Glad to finally hear, might be my new fave. :)
