Gibson Les Paul Custom going into a Boss SD-1 and Eventide TimeFactor. Vox AC4 amp set to 4 watts. I kick in the Skrydstrup Bufferooster (clean boost) at the end for the solo to drive the amp more.

  • Hey Gerry,

What pedal would you recommend for someone who is trying to emulate "the Edge" overdrive sound?

  • @DMcCU2 For early U2 I'd go for an OD-2 or an SD-1. For later stuff I'd go for a TS-9 or DM4.

  • Great version Gerry, love your vids on here. Edge actually played alot of different versions of this song since the 90's, but doesn't he play it w/out distortion during the verse? I believe his OD sound comes from the amp only during that, he kicks in the distortion for the chorus, otherwise it's too harsh.

Also, that Bufferrooster you kick in at the end sounds great. Makes the Sobbat DB-1 obsolete really.

  • @navonab Thanks. I love how the Bufferooster pushes the amp. Yes, Edge has definitely evolved this song with more OD over the years. I would even guess when he switches from chorus to riff he's also kicking in a second amp to make it sound even louder. You can really hear the contrast when he's playing this song in "It Might Get Loud". He even notes it's a "bit louder than I remember..." so I'm wondering if that's from a second amp level or something....

  • @u2john316 I saw the same video where he talks about that during his soundcheck. But I need to re-watch it because it sounded like the amp kicks in and he doesnt have his feet on any pedals to turn it on so maybe it was Dallas doing it because it is him he is speaking too.

  • @trey515 Dallas would probably be selecting the preset with the 2nd amp from an identical Midi Controller that is connected to Edge's. Happens a lot when Edge is on stage and away from his Controller. Dallas does it...

  • Perfection!

  • and the in my dream harmonics.

  • To Bring out the harmonics live add a boost it will work a lot better and do this for the intro solo and outro it will get you even closer and i bet you thought you could not get closer.

  • I dont think the bit where you replace the octave works at all....it just sounds wrong to my ear, but the rest s good

  • I have to admit, the beginning is not the best, but the distortion is GREAT. Nice job.

  • Hi john, i love your videos man!, Hey, what kind o delay effect is using edge on end of the world, for me Achtung is in the 90´s what rubber soul for the 60´s...specially for the edge guitar tone and efects...

  • Great man!!!! Just like we say in México: Qué chingón!!!!

  • I love your videos!
