An overlooked, but brilliant, final 'live' performance from John Lennon and his band BOMF (Brothers of Mother F......!) Lennon's 'live' cover of this R 'N' R standard is performed here for 'Sir Lew Grade's 70th Birthday Celebrations' at the Hilton Hotel in New York (18.04.75).

Lennon instructed the band to wear 'two faced' rubber masks, which were made especially for the event by sculptor Ruby Jackson. This veiled jibe at Grade (later known as 'Lord Greed' in the Beatles TV spoof 'The Rutles') was undertaken as a direct result of Grade's broken promise to sell the Beatles catalogue back to the Beatles. Grade's ATV Music Publishing Company included Nothern Songs, which included the Beatles catalogue. Grade had secretly sold his music publishing catalogue elsewhere.

Irish comedian Dave Allan introduced John Lennon to a glittering celebrity audience that included the actress Lauren Bacall who can be seen briefly. This 'media' event was screened in the UK on ITV in the Spring of 1975.

  • Apparently YOU TUBE HAVE flagged this as being owned by INSTITUTE OF NATIONAL ARCHIVES FRANCE... wrong!! It was made

For by ATV/ITC UK for UK ITV transmission and then licensed globally. If INA have this they have it erroneously and have no right whatsoever. Both INA and YT should understand this fact .. Furthermore in my exhaustive notes I think that this is a 'fair use'

of this footage under the terms and conditions of FAIR DEALING

  • This is JOHN LENNON's 'final live

TV performance' from 1975. Unseen and forgotten til now. FAIR USE of a great performance.

  • Great clip. Didn't even know this existed. They only ever show 'Imagine' from this show. Great live vocal (of course).

  • @Fooblestheclown He does a pretty good lip-sync job if it is. . .the instruments are definitely prerecorded

  • Vinny Appice on drums. Dave Allen the amazing Irish comedian introducing.

  • @Fooblestheclown The singing was live anyways, i think the instruments were from a studio take tho. None of the trumpets or antin are miked up so they're not live, but the singin is live.

  • Was that live? or lip synched?

  • band of mother fuckers= on the kick drum

  • word!
