A film version of the third section of Ginsberg's classic poem, Howl.

It's meant to be tongue in cheek, but I'm not sure that comes through.

  • Why did you choose to portray part iii as a dialogue?

  • I just thought it would make a more interesting film that way, and I liked the idea of reinterpreting the text to create a narrative that Ginsberg didn't intend.

  • Jesus, this is fucking embarrassing.

  • Heh. Thanks for the polite and constructive criticism, friend.

  • LOL. Gotcha. :-)

  • what is the music at the beginning? leave me a message if you know

  • i dont like this

  • The material (poetry) is difficult, and its easy to slip into pretentiousness and empty forms. Keeping it spontaneous and vital is key. It was risky to reinterpret the material so drastically. I dont think it worked. But it was a brave experiment.

  • dustin, you make more cuts and change angles in the beginning, and less towards the end of the piece. You should make more cuts as the drama and frenetic pace of their exchanges intensifies. Also, it distracts in the beginning, when we are still developing sympathy. Its so short that you need to establish sympathy quickly, and that means steady shots in the beginning, imho.

  • Matt, try not to rely too heavily on stressing certain words. You can communicate emotion effectively without that crutch. Also, would he allow her to hold him by the chin in that patronizing way, when he is arguing so stubbornly? Or wouldnt he knock her hand away before snapping back at her?
