Reaching into the archives we found a great interview with master Synth player Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater right at the start of the very first Progressive Nation Tour in Los Angeles. With the recent announcement that the founder and drummer Mike Portnoy has decided to leave Dream Theater we were compelled to post this interview. Please enjoy, and more great interviews will be posted in the coming weeks as we re-vamp this channel!

  • @ChrisHaspeck Yeah, '97 at Alrosa in Columbus Ohio. Same place where Dimebag Darrell died. It was kind of a mismatched bill, but Big Wreck had some great songs.

  • @instereovideos 97 and they headlined a show with Big Wreck ??!?... Big Wreck is a HUGE Canadian band. must have been a great show. I love Big Wreck but seems a tad mismatched .?!?!

  • @ChrisHaspeck Yeah... I saw them headline in '97 with a band called Big Wreck opening up. Big Wreck had a pretty good record out, and they were actually pretty good live, but they knew the crowd was just going to forget all that when DT came out. I remember after their last song some people up front were screaming for them, and their bass player looked confused walking off stage and just shrugged, like, "Really? us? If you thought that was good, just wait fifteen more minutes..."

  • @instereovideos HA HA ... funny you should say. I saw DT a bunch of years back when they toured with YES. I went with a friend of mine who was a HUGE YES fan ... he'd only heard DT a couple of times but being a musician he was curious. DT opened this show in our hometown and I asked Tim what he thought after they played and his reply was ... ~" I feel sorry for YES to have to come out and follow that. Blown away ..."

so you're pretty much right on the money.

  • I never thought of it before, but now I get it. Dream Theater has been held back for years because the most successful bands are scared to tour with them. How would you like your fancy radio audience to see you play after a band like DT?

  • "and do the things ppl do when they listen to pink floyd".. xD

  • THERE U GO GUYS..... NERD THEATER......

  • Turn off the f******g mobile

  • Is this a doom metal version of a Rite of Passage?

  • Is he the dream musician or what???

    "Julliard pitch",wow...
