The first version of the Sportage was garbage in it's very definition. A mechanical nightmare, depreciation was horrid and it just had a completely "cheap" feel to it. However, they made titantic leaps and bounds once they came out with the 2nd Sportage in 2005. Literally night and day.

@DrSurprise aha why Kia cars are going up in sales in all over the world?? yugo went for 3 4 years here in the states while kia has been there since 96? and since then sales are going up year in and year out? sorento now is outselling all suvs in it's class, the models are great and efficient, sportage surpassed the x1 in quality and reliabily surveys? ive been driving a kia since 5 years and a half no prob at all, im getting a new KIA too, wht i love abt it is that it catches many jealous ppl

@DrSurprise Thats just your opinion,take it to the mind that korean cars are now beautiful,take the genesis R-Spec for example,the i40 sonata,theyy are all cheap cars getting 5 star ratings for crash test,and Hyundai topped JDPower's reliability section last year,and also won north american car of the year last year too!

As for me, I'll stick to a Ford, Honda, Acura, Toyota and even a Saturn over the Korean failures any day.

lol, they're dominating because people who don't know crap about cars think they're getting a good deal because of the cheap price and the 10 year warranty. Wait until you hear them ranting in the near future when the low quality parts are damaged and it costs them money to constantly fix. Also, I guess you've never heard of Daewoo (and maybe Yugo) and how they were in the USA for 3 or 4 years and went bankrupt because of the junk cars they made.
