Military service is honorable- in some cases, it provides for our physical security.
Why do we embellish that service with talk about rights and freedoms?
htt...
The US Armed Forces protect our physical security in some cases- thats as good as it gets.
If "The Troops" protect our rights and freedoms-
Where were they when -in the 1980's- the 50 states were prohibited from setting their own minimum drinking age?
Where were "The Troops" when concealed carry permits and the second amendment became void on local national park lands?
Where were "The Troops" in 2008 when the Department of Homeland Security set up suspicionless, internal checkpoints and roadblocks on The Olympic Peninsula- treating motorists who had done nothing wrong- and were not crossing the border as guilty until proven innocent?
The day women or 18 year olds got the right to vote, prohibition was ended, blacks were first able to marry whites, Miranda rights were instituted, the federal government stopped going after medical marijuana, etc. - It was not because "The Troops" were kicking ass somewhere overseas.
We have 3 branches of government to watch over or manipulate our rights and freedoms.
In terms of rights and freedoms- the Department of Defense has no more say than the Department of Agriculture.
Military service is honorable- promoting it under false pretenses is not good for the country.
We're not really about freedom in this country. It's just the way we try to justify our foreign policy.
Armed Forces operations are linked to US foreign policy. Maybe, in some cases, that involves our physical security.
Which operations have had anything to do with American rights and freedoms?
Frequent style of comment on the web:
"You have the right to make comments on a blog, and write letters to the editor because The Troops are fighting to give you that freedom."
As if we are mindless drones- dependent on people in military uniforms in order to think, write and speak or raise a rifle towards whatever terrorist boogeyman comes to take away our American way of life.
We do not live under a Totalitarian Regime where Individual Liberty must somehow be enabled by uniformed agents of the government.
When do we get to take delivery on all this freedom we hear so much about?
When we are told our concealed carry permit is void on National Parks lands- can we have The Joint Chiefs of Staff send out "The Troops" to somehow restore our freedom?
If I want to go down to the bar with my 20 year old girlfriend (a responsible adult) to order up a few beers and celebrate freedom should I contact The Joint Chiefs of Staff for authorization?

The military has been converted into a giant corporation. The president is the commander in chief of the military industrial complex. This is why we go to war on a daily basis, we've invaded more countries than nazi-germany, the soviet union and china combined. This is why our military is currently occupying over 130 countries. Imperialism. We're recolonizing the nations of the world. We invade, crush & re-design the competition, the war on oil for example - oops, I mean "war on terror"
Absolutely, war "for our freedom" lol - As Orwell said, we have reached the twilight zone when "war is peace" - when the only establishment who could take away our liberties is the state, in exchange for our securities. It's almost laughable. The state manufactures more excuses than a snake oil salesman. The man who simply glances at the world knows more than the man who reads the papers everyday.
the nation has been corporatized. corporations in effect run this country. we have been hijacked by an elite group of globalists with a New World order objective. the troops are being misused for this end.
The Armed forces SIGNED UP because they WANTED to protect our freedoms.
The term "support the troops" is just BS propaganda that is used to support a POLICY, that, ironically, puts the troop's lives in danger for whatever reason our glorious leaders want, even if the policy demonstrably restricts those rights and freedoms that they signed up to protect.
And we are told today that military grade weapons are somehow making it out of US sporting goods stores and into Mexico- helping to create the violence we see in the failed drug war.
It has been my experience, even in countries with gun control such as Mexico, plenty of criminals have plenty of guns, while i was not allowed to have one there, being a law-abiding citizen. The numerous atrocities suffered because i had no weapon also occur in the usa. War is relative, and immediate when one is small in stature and female in gender.

If we lost the bogus "for our freedom" we might have to come to an honest understanding of US foreign policy.
