In regards to a 2+1 dimensional schematic of space-time they are "funnel shaped". Space-time is actually 3+1 dimensions. Also, the black hole is not a funnel shape; it's its gravity that, when represented in a 2+1 dimensional schematic, appears funnel shaped, due to singularity.
