Are there any sources on the net which teach you how to carry out this procedure in an emergency.
I understand that you should not carry out this procedure etc etc but I am talking about as a last resort.

You know what is shit? If a dude is choking to death in front of me and the heimlich maneuver doesn't work, that guy is stuck there without oxygen to the brain for at least 5 minutes until paramedics arrive even though a person becomes brain dead within 3 minutes without O2. If I attempt this procedure to save his life before help arrives, I will likely be arrested at the scene and sued out my ass. In the eyes of the law, I'm supposed to watch him die.

@Skyrilla I am guessing but .. a silicone model that has closely mimicked the anatomy of the thyroid area would be hugely expensive and laborious to maintain, next best is ein swine!
-
@leeking007 Why can't they just use silicone models?

@Zeanu JA ist ein swine !

@benjamminn20 It is possible to improvise with many types of tube, a nasopharyngeal tube would work better because it is not as rigid as an oropharyngeal. In emergency situations many items have been used, such as pens. The cric tube is the best if you have it though because it provides a better seal for max airflow and low risk of aspiration, unlike a simple straw. Keep in mind Tracheotomies have been recorded since the 16th century, and im sure what they were using wasn't great but worked.

so wat do u do if ure airway is completely crushed? and also wat are the odds of this happening in jiu jitsu? since chokes are applied

i have a question, is it possible to improvise an Oropharyngeal airway instead of a cricothyrotomy tube?

@g4bandit Is this because a pig's anatomy is very much like ours?
I have a question for tacmed, or anyone else qualified to answer. Does the airway tube fit the incision air tight? Would it make a difference if it didn't?

Yes, after the bulb on the tube is inflated it is "air tight". Without the bulb on the tube inflated blood and vomint can still be aspirated. That is the problem with using a pen or straw, it allows air to move to the lungs, but it also allows other bodily fluids to pass, but if you dont have an ET tube or a trac tube the pen is better than letting the patient suffocate.
