Great design of moving bed filter using a new ceramic media.
SPREAD THE WORD.
After testing the media in one of my old designs of moving bed filter, I noticed that the media had started to wear away so I decided to fill the new one to full capacity and made a great discovery - The media actually seems to perform better when 'vibrating' and the increase in media volume means more surface area for bacteria, which in turn means better filtration.
Groovy....
The company who sent me the media now have an improved media which is much more robust but for the present time, I'm glad that I had the chance to test the softer media or I wouldn't have decided to fill the media section of the new filter as full as I did.
That's the benefit from proper testing, I guess.....
This design of filter has the following awesome benefits:
Huge surface area for bacteria colonisation compared to traditional internal filters (pump driven) and K1 moving bed filters.
Clear design for observing media action and bonus of seeing when foam needs cleaning.
Slim filter profile to minimise space taken up in tank.
Curved top of filter to prevent air getting trapped (as it sometimes did in previous designs).
Filter can be operated by a small external air pump for super low running costs and in event of a power cut can be driven by battery operated air pump.
Tapering shape channels air much better than previous straight sided filters.
As the filter could be mass produced very cheaply and can be made in various sizes to suit any size of home aquarium, the scope for it's use is as varied as the range of aquariums available.

Damn it, get me China on the phone - Lets get going, man.
Every tank should have one of these in.
Hear ye, hear ye, the guy who started the 'Aquarium Moving Bed Filter' craze returns with a beauty, to layeth the smackdown on previous internal moving bed filter designs.
Pure gold......
I could manufacture your clay marbles for you. I already make clay marbles and with the addition of different sizes in the same filter, you will get even more surface area in contact of the air and water with the media.

There are some great medias available especially ceramic ones for static beds but the trick is getting a media which has neutral buoyancy for a moving bed. The one in this video has wear issues as it is an early type so its a balance of wear, movement (neutral buoyancy) and large surface area. Clay medias currently for sale are a good media but no good for a moving bed due to weight and wear issues so if you could crack that it would be great.

How do you make this filter? could you make a video showing us?

Just search for 'how to make a moving bed filter'
The first search result should be my video which explains the process.
