@dmichaud Yes, You can rotate the platters backwards when heads are in parking area because this area is non-magnetic. In cases when a hard drive motor is slightly jammed, it is better to try and loosen up the motor then to risk a platter swap procedure. If motor does not free itself in 10-15 minutes, it is most likely that it will not free at all using this tool. If such thing happens, we recommend our Spindle Replacement Tool.
