dont like it very much. it seams all you ying jow guys and lau students show these partner sets. its all from long range also, eagle claw is most effective inside. my eagle claw is not practiced this way, you all have lots of holes in your gung fu

My experience with such chi na is that it doesn't work on educated strikers. Any input from the video poster?

I agree in the striking range there is no chin na, but only comes into play when the right time arrives and in the right range. You can't ask for it. The technique has to be there. Many times when applying a lock the opponent locks his joint trying to defend it, which is a perfect time to strike him. Sometimes you can also apply a lock when u get him off guard. Or happen to follow his energy right into his demise. There's much more to say about this but i agree, it's not easy.

BTW: Eagle Claw is also a striking art with a vast array of strikes. And when a lock doesn't work there is always a counter to the counter. :-)

I've only taken one class in Eagle Claw, but I agree. We practiced more getting in close and straight up like destroying somebody. Maybe it's just a difference in emphasis. You don't always wanna poke someone's eyes out or rip their nuts off.

Of course if one does not have the real life application practiced thousands of times, done with speed, strength and real feel, the techniques will not come out in a real fight which is far faster than this video of course. If one does not know how to train and have attained some level of the Eagle claw discipline (serious gripping power), then it will also not be effective in a real fight. Ones techniques must be alive and able to adapt instantly in a real fight.

@paullywalnuts2 lmao this is FANZI eagle claw....its a northern long fist style...no shit there doing it long range =] but from what i see they end up pretty close when they lock in. FANZIquan long range fighting, eagle claw when they use chin na. thats why its called fanzi ying jow pai.

my sifu learned eagle claw in dominique. his instructor learmed from a gentleman in england during the war. No big names. we have a small school. I will get around to posting something, we share pretty much the same forms. the application and expession are different.
