UPDATE:

The Wii now has a downloadable application so you do not need the disc to watch movies. You will have to re-activate netflix on the Wii when you download it from the download channel. It has not changed the quality.

The Xbox 360 version has been updated to interact with the Kinect and now features a search function. You can also add DVDs to your queue through your 360... pretty nice feature. It does load faster and I have had less issues with the stream changing quality. It's much easier to navigate.

A comparison of Netflix streaming on Xbox 360 vs the Nintendo Wii. Recorded in HD in split screen to show the detailed differences between the two consoles.
Don't take other comparisons at face value. You cannot know how they recorded their video, quality of camera, and you do not know that they have their camera recording properly.

I was recording on a professional grade HD camcorder at 1080i 60fps to match the output of the system. I was recording from a DLP television broadcasting from the 360 at 720p connected via HDMI and the Wii at 480p connected via component cable. The camera was set to a constant shutter speed, light setting, and focus and was not turned off, moved, or changed any time during this recording.

I can guarantee that the 360 has considerable advantages in video quality from streaming Netflix. I made this video because no other comparisons properly represented the contrasting differences in quality and color. They also have not shown the different video formats available on netflix streaming. Hopefully this has shown the actual quality differences.

  • Okay ... So i have an LG HD tv i have an Xbox 360 and i have The HdMi Cables and i have net flix i gotta a madcat wifi adapter whiich only takes my connection my router is f**ckng boss ! For hd and all i start netflix its not Hd ? Wtf ! Please is it that i have to change something or my connection i pay each mont 8 dollars or something close to dat and still quality decent but i want Hd please reply :/

  • @iRodrigoBored There are so many things this could be. Step 1 put your 360 on the DMZ for your router. If that doesn't fix it, then it's more complicated. You could try checking the ping and hops between netflix and your home. Also can you get netflix in HD on your computer? I've had problems getting HD on certain days or at certain times but usually it's good. So check your Internet connection first then it will get harder to pin down. Also try unplugging and replug the router. Might fix it.

  • How do you change to HD streaming for Xbox 360?

  • @conker156 HD should be automatic I believe.

  • hey dude when i watch a movie on netflex from xbox and i want to watch a hd movie and sound why does my amp not show all 5 speakers working would you know thank you

  • @2s1cari I believe the 360 didn't even give Netflix surround sound capability until very recently. Even then, not all videos have 5.1. It sucks. So unless you know you're watching a movie in 5.1, I really have no idea how to help either way.

  • @LastKissGoodbye Go on to the netflix site and you can change your streaming quality settings.

  • oh here we go again with the comparison

  • all i will say is that '

    wii is GAY

  • U now can put Wii on HD 1080p :)

    just to say...

  • Might be a bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone knows how to (deliberately) reduce the quality of streaming via xbox? Just that at the moment it's kinda killing my monthly download allowance (40GB per month, roughly 20 hours of streaming netflix)

  • @prot8to Nooooo it's all good ! If someone would of told that you could simply go to the Net Flix web site and you could change the settings over there i never would of had that problem !

For anyone else just go to NetFLix then go to account and help there should be a fix quality settings or something like that go click that and change your quality to High Quality ! Hope it helped someone else ! :D
