According to the state data, it is our Hispanic schools that struggle the most. This is not surprising when we have a high percentage of ESOL students in those schools. It is not the race that makes the difference, but the experiences of the child and barriers they may face. Any school, no matter the race, socioeconomics, or other factors, can make a difference in the lives of their students. OCPS is made up of exceptional teachers. We just need to learn how to have a civilized debate.

Is there a recording of what the teachers were saying? For the record..I'm neutral on this issue. I love the teac hers and the school board. You are all wonderful and I know your jobs are not easy.

KG made this a race issue all on her own, not the community and certainly not the teachers. We were invited to voice our concerns about the closing of the schools, for the childrens' sake, not for our own. I was quite surprised when I witnessed this woman verbally abuse the citizens and physically assault a teacher. She couldn't take the heat so she tried to save face. For what? She was not being called out personally. She needs to be held accountable and apologize to the community or be fired.

The parents did NOT ask for the mergers. The purpose of the meeting was for the board to listen to public input. When people don't like your idea, it is not abuse or 'browbeating.' When people disagree with your ideas, it's not abuse. Parents and teachers did not insult, they disagreed.Parents and teachers did not name-call, they disagreed.Parents and teachers did not go to board members and poke them in the chest, they voiced their opinion, which, again, was the purpose of the meeting.

If you want to be outraged, let it be with the the panel that has played God with these kids education & have decided to close these schools. Transferring the exisitng students to other black school, with the impact of over populating them. Or do you care about that?

If you want to be outraged, let it be at the fact that 7 schools are closing within Orange County & there is nothing you can do about it. This does have more of a major impact within the black community becuase the majority of the school closings are happening within the black community.

Ms Gordon is a wonderful teacher & outstanding role model. I have had personal experiences with her, where she has battled on the hills of Tallahassee about the welfare of my kids education. I refuse to believe she was in all effort trying to belittle someone & insult the integrity of those teachers in Osceola county. I believe this is a tactic by the media to remove the concern from the real issue & that is our budget in Orange Cty P S.
