Councillor Tracey Carpenter, of Bathurst Regional Council in central New South Wales, Australia, responds to the culling of 140 kangaroos ahead of this year's V8 car race on Mt Panorama. The shootings were carried out under license from the National Parks and Wildlife Service by a contractor working for Bathurst Regional Council. The cull was organised by council staff as a safety precaution (there were fears kangaroos would jump onto the racetrack) without prior consultation with elected councillors or the Bathurst community. This interview was recorded by Tracy Sorensen outside the Bathurst council chambers on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.
