  • Are these people retarded? You don't need to take a hammer to your hard drive, just reformat it and erase all of your old files securely.

  • Yes, a hammer generally won't damage a hard drive's internal platter(s) enough to prevent them from being read by specialized equipment.

However, unfortunately neither will formatting the drive, either. Although formatting clears the drive's File Allocation Table and re-writes the track sector markers, the data itself isn't touched and can easily be restored by forensic recovery experts.

Only wiping a disk using well-tested tools gives adequate protection. Grinding it into dust is even better.

  • lol i know i didnt just see the lady try to destroy a harddrive with a hammer /facepalm

  • lols aslong as the discs are intact i can remake the actual hard drive ... you got to hammer that a bit harder

  • oh no, what is she doing there...you can use it again......

by the way: I bet there are more viewers here, who are actually interested in trying this stuff out themselves than in gaining information on how to protect yourself (by destroying your hard drive - lol)

  • lame

  • @stlthmstr

You can reformat it, fill it with garbage files, then reformat it again, doing these steps a few times will generally get rid of the original sensitive information. From what I was told from a friend of mine who has worked in forensic data recovery that it's cleared completely after 4 times... perhaps even as many as 7 times.

  • 2be fucking honest if u cant find a hacker u fail. u can use crt+alt+dlt and see if u ahve 2 winlogs on witch means someones on ur computer able to move mouse around. or use like netstat -n or net view or whateve ron ur cmd if u take ur time u can catch um theirs also a program called find the hacker

  • @TheMacHacks 1)that probably is enough for it to be read 2)there not going to waste time by completly destroying because that would be abit boring and it'd be people like you who'd say "well why didnt they just hit once to gives us the idea"

  • Though this is all true, I love how older people try to make the interwebs look mysterious and dangerous by using the prefix "cyber". lol

  • are you people stupied or something no firewall will work in this person in the vids case becasue he dosnt encrypt his network trafic

this comes as default on nearly all routers e.g. bt routers come with wpa encryption and you get a key on hte back of router and a card with it on as well

the main problem people have is actually from dodgy sites or software

  • They got a person to demonstrate, a free network manager, bah. They didnt want to viod there own advice saying that a wireless pawsord was enouth
