Well basically I want to know if I were to obtain enough money through grants and scholarships to attend NYU, would I be in anyway possible to support myself (even if only just barely) living in the city. It doesn't really matter which part, seeing as I could always just use the underground railroad.

Ah, that makes it a lot harder. NYU is one of the most expensive schools, and the academics don't necessarily reflect that. There are a lot of disgruntled NYU students who didn't make it all the way through for financial reasons. Maybe you should come after college.

Can you be more specific? If you're talking about money, rents are sky high in the most fashionable neighborhoods, but there are plenty of other neighborhoods.
