When learning how to be loving to yourself becomes more important than trying to have control over not being controlled, then you will learn to take care of yourself without hurt others.

This helps me a lot b/c my mom is an alcoholic and likes to say hurtful things to me a lot and I would always take it personally. I never really thought to focus on what is causing me to think about her comments as hurtful. It's really more of a reflection of her anger towards herself and her own life issues. Thank you.

wow this totally explains the scene in Good Will Hunting between Matt Damon and Robin Williams where he's like, "It's not your fault. It's not your fault." And Matt Damon is like, "Don't do this to me man, not you man." And Robin Williams is like, "It's not your fault. It's not your fault, etc."
