Healthcare reform was a large part of President Obama's platform last year during his campaign, and its something that progressives have been working on for the past two decades. But during that time, the GOP has made sure that they throw up every possible road block to prevent Democrats from being able to enact meaningful reform. But now that the power in Washington has shifted, the effort to revamp
our healthcare system has been put back on the agenda. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. of Air America's Ring of Fire talks about the latest developments in this fight for a better system with Senator Bernie Sanders.

  • We need national health care NOW. It does not matter how much it costs. If we can squander billions; if not trillions, on an evil war based on lies we can do health care.

  • it sounds like pay me now, or pay me later.

either pay for comprehensive, cost effective, universal health care now, or pay for uninsured using hospitals for primary health care now AND later.

how about taking some money from the miltary AND prison industrial complex(s), and putting it towards a universal health care complex?

    sounds simple to me.

  • One more element to this:

Obama nixed the idea of a Regulatory Committe instead opting to give the Fed Reserve (which should die because they are independent bankers and not part of the gov't structure) have no public names or accountability.

I knew singlepayer was shafted 6-16 when Obama said, "I want to bring repubS on board w/healthcare"...

    translation: NONE.

If it weren't for dem Bluedogs sabotaging public interest (O is one) thugs finish the job.

    Throw out this gov't COMPLETELY!

  • Understating to say what a sad story this is.

It is also an understatement to say how diabolical a country the usa is. So punitive toward citizens after O just forked trillions of unaccounted dollars (and is not asking for accountability either) to banks & corporations which would have PAID FOR OUR HEALTHCARE.

O just gave the Federal Reserve MORE power of "oversight" (h'yeah) of consumer protection (h' yeah) and regulatory power over wall st (h'yeah).

Your friend: crime on our souls.

  • I had single payer in Belgium. I had children over there (incl. a high risk pregnancy and several surgeries) along w/ normal children's issues. We NEVER had care rationed. We never waited more than 12 hours to see a dr. We never spent 30% of our income(like we had to over here w/ premiums,co pays, and deductables when I became very ill), or nearly lost our home. Only in the USA where corporations concerns rate higher than the average citizen can this exist.

    Good luck Bernie!Thank you.

  • Sen Kennedy will oppose single payer!!! That is my senator. Thatg is hard to believe. I can beleive Kerry opposing it butg not Kennedy.

  • We also spend tens of thousands of dollars taking care of dependents of people who die needlessly. My best friend got her first medical insurance policy at 48 years old. She supported 3 kids and an aging mother by herself as a single mom her whole life. She died June 1, 2009 because after finally getting her first year of insurance, it had a $2K deductible. She put off getting tests because she couldn't afford it. Now her dependents will need all kinds of services now that she is dead.
