Adam Rafferty - "Shelter Island" - Solo Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar

Here's an original tune called "Shelter Island". I recorded this one on my "Chameleon" CD.

Shelter Island, close to Long Island, NY is where I had my first clear visions of wanting to play solo acoustic guitar. It was a delicious time, brimming with possibilities that had not yet been tapped, musically.

I had an electric with me on that trip, and a dream. I had not even uploaded the first youtube vid!!!

A folky little melody came to me at a later time, but I named the song after Shelter Island. It almost became a ballad but after hearing Tommy Emmanuel's "Dixie MCguire" I wanted to put a thumbpick groove to it.

This song will hopefully appear in Issue #71 of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, so if you want tabs you'll have to hold out until that issue prints!!!!

Hey Adam, what type of thumbpick are you using for this video? When I play with my thumb and palm mute, it comes out pretty weak.

@KiiroKame Well, no matter what the pick - you'll need to practice hard to achieve the sound you are after. I use Dunlop mediums, but I spend time practicing balancing the volume of the parts....thanks for commenting!!!

I'll admit I always look at your video because you have a ton of talent...but often what you play isnt really my style but I'm still able to appreciate it...I gotta say...this song hits the spot man and it's a great thumbpickin' tune!!!! Will eventually look at this video 5000 times to learn it :P
