http://familyproject.sfsu.edu Always My Son is one of a series of short documentary films that are being produced by the Family Acceptance Project to help ethnically and religiously diverse families decrease their LGBT children's risk for suicide, substance abuse, depression, HIV, homelessness and placement in foster care or juvenile justice settings -- by increasing family support. The video series we are developing is part of a range of research-based intervention resources -- including a new evidence-based family approach to help diverse families support their LGBT children. These resources are based on groundbreaking research conducted by Dr. Caitlin Ryan and her team at San Francisco State University. Our new research shows that family accepting and rejecting behaviors have a compelling impact on their LGBT children's health and mental health. Visit our webpage at http://familyproject.sfsu.edu to learn more about the Family Acceptance Project.

This is AWESOME! The Family Acceptance Project is making more family videos like this and I just made my online donation to help. WE can all help families accept their LGBT kids by getting these stories out into the world.
If YOU want to help LGBT youth -- and prevent suicides -- PLEASE DONATE to the Family Acceptance Project today (you'll find them on the internet - they have a donate button)

This is an amazing film!
I just read about the Family Acceptance Project on Time.com
Check out their webpage – the link is under the video
They need more funds to make other videos of families with LGBT kids from other ethnic backgrounds.
We should all write to Ellen & Oprah to give some visibility to this groundbreaking project.
I’m going to donate online and I hope others will join me!!
What a beautiful message to share with our families and friends for the holiday season!

This was utterly amazing to watch. The honesty is what gets me the most-- I think if my mom expressed her issues to me, I might better understand her thoughts. But instead we have the You're-Out-Don't-Bring-It-Up-Again rule around here, and it's really unfortunate.

This is a very touching documentary. I'm so glad that E.J.'s parents accepted him for who he is, put their selfish pride aside, and wanted him to be happy. Thank you so much for this wonderful video. =)

I cannot donate money (have none), but I am always eager to donate time and energy to worthwhile causes—and this is CERTAINLY worthwhile. Too many people have been scared, scarred, and worse by their families' lack of understanding and acceptance. EJ's parents are phenomenal, and should be very proud of the eloquent, sensitive, honest young man they have raised.
