ADK 686 running the 5:00pm service from Britomart to Papakura via Newmarket on 23 January 2012 suffers a diesel alternator failure and loses power, leaving it disabled at Puhinui station. Attempts to restart the alternator and get underway with limited engine power by the crew were met with little success. DC 4916 arrives from behind to push 686 out of the way. Meanwhile DL 9008 passes by northbound with a freight consist. Train Control routes 686 and 4916 to the Wiri inland Port sidings to allow southbound peak hour commuter trains to clear.

Those ADKs are only good for the scrap heap! and the ADLs aren't far behind them! can't wait for the new electrics to start service... diesel electric is no good for metro rail when your stopping and starting all the time... to slow.

I thought the ADKs and ADLs were hydraulic-propelled machines? But that is typical of the ADKs these days. To think that they'll last to 2014 is beyond me.
Looks like they used 4916 to power it and the independents on 686 to slow her down, if they were still functional...
