NC Poetry Out Loud 2009 - "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman

Nadia Nasir, NC's POL winner and a student at Cedar Ridge High School, recites "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman.

Nadia was one of 28 students that were semi-finalists and finalists in the statewide Poetry Out Loud competition at the Museum of History in Raleigh in a program coordinated by the NC Arts Council. As State winner, she competed in the national POL competition in April 2009.

Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud encourages high school students to memorize and recite poetry while mastering public speaking skills, building self-confidence and learning about their literary heritage.
